I had a dream that a bird of love
came down from the sky
flapped it’s pretty little wings and said
‘I think I could teach you to fly

and in the dream the bird of love
showed me what its wings were for
took me to the highest tree and said
‘if you never jump you’ll never soar
no if you never jump you’ll never soar’
so I took a step from the branch and thought
heaven never looked so near
I started falling but I wound up flying

then one day the bird flew away
flew right through the open door
flapped it’s pretty little wings and said

used to wonder who it was that made the world so beautiful and free
built the mountains high and made the rain to fill the deep blue sea
but now the wind in the pines
seems like just about enough to ease my mind
always thought of all the far-off places that I’d like to go
all the pretty people and the languages I’d like to know
but now an acre of land
feels like just about enough for these two hands
never dreamed I’d want someone to share my space and time
then I saw a girl with eyes like water and lips like wine
oh just to see her face
in the morning in a quiet place
just to hear her name
and the morning’ll never be the same
