she says no but I think that she means something else
she says go when she hates being by herself
she says please with a forked tongue behind her teeth
there’ve been times when she’s said she’s confused
and that she doesn’t know what she wants to do
and I tell her that I don’t know just what that means
she says nobody ever really wins
she says love and she takes it back again
she says wait and there’s no reason why I can’t
there’s a certain way she looks at you
communicating things that words can’t do
but I don’t get it so I make believe that I know just what it means
she says hey it’s a bright and beautiful day
let’s go and find some shady trees and we can slip away
I’m surprised but how can I say no?
it’s like those times when she’s said she’s confused
and that she doesn’t know what she wants to do
and I can’t tell but maybe we both know just what that means
